But support mesh plays an important role in many other industrial filter elements, helping maintain structural integrity, service life and reliable filtration performance.
Thin filter media such as glass-fiber paper, non-woven fabrics and filter felts can provide high particle retention efficiency but generally have limited mechanical strength. Without proper support, pleated media may collapse under differential pressure, deform under vacuum, suffer fatigue from pressure pulsations, or lose effective filtration area as pleats come into contact.
Different applications have different requirements:
• Fuel filters need support against pressure fluctuations and suction-side vacuum, with materials compatible with fuels, additives and operating temperatures.
• Coalescing and oil-water separation filters may require internal and/or external support to stabilize the media and reduce deformation or damage.
• Dust collector filters require good fatigue resistance to withstand repeated pulse-jet cleaning cycles.
• Chemical and water filtration applications often place greater emphasis on corrosion resistance and material compatibility.

Poorly selected filter support mesh can increase flow resistance, cause deformation or contribute to premature filter failure. Strength, stiffness, open area, durability and corrosion resistance all need to be properly balanced.
As a specialized supplier, HUZE provides expanded metal, perforated sheets, epoxy-coated mesh, and welded mesh for filter support and protection applications.
If you are developing or optimizing fuel, coalescing, dust-removal, water or HVAC filters, share your specifications with us. We can help develop a filter support mesh solution suited to your application.
